Off Season Training
We hope you have enjoyed your spring rest and are ready for summer. It's no secret that a good ski season depends on aerobic and strength training in the summer. With our idyllic summer weather the "no excuses" part of our motto applies: hiking, mountain biking, road biking, running, roller skiing, swimming, weight training, jumping rope, triathlons, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, there are innumerable avenues for getting fitter all summer! Great fresh foods abound this time of year. Eat well for health and energy. As always, sleep well and drink plenty of water too.

Will Andresen Named Coach for
New GCC Ski Team
Gogebic Community College is starting a new men's and women's Nordic ski team for the 2009-2010 season! The new ski team will compete in collegiate and citizen races and will offer an affordable way for young skiers to compete at the collegiate level.
Will Helped out as an assistant TG coach this season, and we look forward to combining forces with his new college team next season.
Go to www.gogebic.cc.mi.us/athletics/nordic.shtm for more info on Will and the new x-c ski team.
"Those who think they can do some mountain biking in the fall and be ready for ski season are sorely mistaken. To get full use of your aerobic capacity you must train yourself throughout the summer season."
Bjorn Dahli
Living Legends Meet
Here
is a picture of Will Andresen's dad, who is one of the Birkie founders,
with Bjorn Dahli, "living legend and greatest cross country skier of
all time." Much of our coaching philosophy comes from the wisdom these
two have handed down, our opportunities made possible by their
pioneering work. There is a saying that comes to mind, "Remember where
you come from." As we go forward, we respect those who paved the way
and at the same time remain aware that we too are paving the way for
the next generation.
