Do you see yourself participating in a ski race or event?

If you answered yes to any one of these questions, then…

Team Gogebic Nordic Ski Club is looking for you!

Who We Are

Team Gogebic is a friendly group of all ages that meets to have fun while improving their skiing abilities. We encourage both classical skiing and skate skiing techniques.

Our Goals

Our first and foremost goal is to have fun and promote cross-country skiing.

Next is to increase event participation and create a support network for members to achieve their goals.

Last but certainly not least, is to encourage the youth of the area to ski and to develop any young athletes wishing to compete.

Winter Schedule

Our Winter session goes from Nov. - March.

Generally, we meet Tues. and Thurs. afternoons from 4:00 - 5:00.
Weekends are devoted to training on our own and racing. Come whichever days your schedule and interests allow.

We ski primarily at ABR and Wolverine Ski Trails near Ironwood.

We alternate between skating and striding. All are encouraged to learn both techniques.

Off-Season Training

Team Gogebic meets year-round to work on ski-specific conditioning. In the "off season" (when there is no snow) we devote ourselves to trail running with poles for the cardiovascular system, plyometrics for strength and proprioception, and roller skiing.

Team Gogebic in a Nutshell

Anyone who wants to learn to ski, wants to ski more efficiently, wants to gain fitness through skiing, or wants to teach or coach skiing to others is welcome.

All ages and abilities are welcome.

We are a racing team AND a recreational ski club.

We meet Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each practice starts with an instructional component and then a ski during which we focus on that component.

We have made it as inexpensive as possible to participate. We will find a way for anyone serious about skiing to be able to.

About the Team

Team Gogebic is a true team, in that we believe everyone is learning, and everyone has the ability to teach. That is why you will find many sessions led by others in the group who may not think of themselves as "coaches." Under the watchful eye of Coach Ken, it all comes together and we get better despite ourselves.

"I had a great time yesterday-
it made me glad all day today."
LeaAnn

About the Coaches

Ken Hazel, head coach, is a ski bum turned instructor/coach but don't let that title fool you. He is a PSIA instructor and an accomplished masters ski racer with twenty-five years experience. In that time he has studied technique & training and been coached and advised by some of the best skiers and coaches in the US and Canada.

Jackie Powers, assistant coach, has six years of Nordic skiing experience, knowledge and interest in nutrition, weight management, and exercise physiology.

Other experienced skiers and instructors are invited to join us throughout the year as their schedules allow.

"We accomplish in proportion to what we attempt."
Ken
