Joining the Team
Our membership corresponds to ski season, starting in November each year.
All Ages, All Abilities....
Recreational: Those who want to develop fundamental ski technique and fitness at a relaxed pace. Maybe you’d also like to enter a local ski event?
Fitness: For those who want to improve their ski technique, and to increase their fitness, while training with a group in structured workouts. Maybe you’d like to enter a ski race for the first time, improve your times from last year, or challenge yourself to become a stronger, more efficient skier.
Competitive: High school racers and adult skiers who want to train for races with a group capable of intense, fast, or long sessions. Working hard AND having fun is guaranteed!
We also have a children's program!
Our children's program is growing. This year we are incorporating the "Sports for Life" developmental philosophy of USSA more fully into our children's program. Here are the first three stages:
Age 0- 6: Active Start - Children develop basic movements through play.
We encourage families with pre-school children to join the team and ski with their children at their ability. The key for children of this age is to enjoy being out in the snow. This is best accomplished by short forays with parents or older siblings when an adult is able to closely supervise and respond to the child's needs. Children accompanied by a parent are welcome to join in the children's program activities.
Ages 6-9: Fun-damentals - Introduction to ski skills through structured play.
Children ages 6-9 learn through fun games, drills, relay races, and other fast-paced activities designed to develop coordination, balance, and agility while developing basic fitness. Teamwork and fair play are also learned. As the season progresses we take on longer and longer trails to enjoy the thrill of downhill speed and to revel in the accomplishment of uphill efforts. Parents are welcome to leave their younger children with the group and ski with other adults if the child is able to tolerate time away from the parent, responds to direction/instruction by the appointed adult(s) and can interact positively with the group. Parents are asked to assist with the children's program in some way throughout the season.
Ages 8 - 12: Learning to Train. Continued ski skills through structured training.
Older children vary greatly in ski ability, maturity level and interest. Therefore, there is overlap in ages between this group and the Fun-damentals group. When children are ready and express interest, the level of instruction increases to include more drills, longer trail skiing, and more advanced skill development. Children in this category often are ready to represent the team in local competitions. Teamwork, fair play and fun continue to be emphasized.
High School: High school age children generally join in the Recreational, Fitness, or Competitive groups mentioned above.
